The compact crossover SUV segment is loaded with tons of great options and we know that makes it hard to find the model that meets all your needs. We are here to help by picking two of the segment's stand out models -- the 2018 Jeep Renegade and the 2018 Chevrolet Trax, pitting them against each other to find out which one is the true winner! The Renegade offers outstanding off-roading capabilities, modern technology features, and a unique and eye-catching design. New updates for the 2018 model year include a standard infotainment system upgrade and a rearview camera is now standard on all models. The Trax is bold and savvy and each trim offers a well-equipped cabin. Updates for the new model year are minimal for the Trax. Looks like the Renegade is off with a head start! Check out the rest of our comparison review pitting these two compact crossover SUVs against each other to see which one is truly the best of the best.

2018 Jeep Renegade Power & Handling

The Renegade offers two powertrain options for the 2018 model year! The two lower trim levels -- Sport and Latitude -- are powered by a turbo 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates 160 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. This powertrain combination offers an EPA estimated city/highway fuel economy of 24/31 miles per gallon with two- and four-wheel drive. The higher two trim levels -- Trailhawk and Limited -- have a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine underneath the hood, mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain duo generates 180 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. This duo also offers an estimated city/highway fuel economy 22/31 miles per gallon with two-wheel drive and 21/29 miles per gallon with four-wheel drive. When outfitted with this engine, the Renegade can haul up to 2,000 pounds.

2018 Chevrolet Trax Power & Handling

Each Chevrolet Trax model is powered by the same engine and transmission combination. Under the hood, you will find a turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder that comes mated with an automatic six-speed transmission. This powertrain combination delivers decent power at 138 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. The EPA has estimated that the Trax's city/highway fuel economy comes in at 25/33 miles per gallon with front-wheel drive and 24/30 with all-wheel drive.

Conclusions

The Chevrolet Trax does offer a few more advanced standard features than the Jeep Renegade but otherwise, the Trax just can't keep up! The 2018 Jeep Renegade offers more trim levels -- one that is dedicated to superior off-roading experiences, two powertrain options that are both more powerful than the Trax's single powertrain option, and so much more!
