This engine focuses on reducing harshness, vibration, and noise, to allow for a quieter ride that is also more comfortable. Along with that focus is the capability to tow up to 4,500 pounds, which is an impressive feat for a mid-size SUV. The last engine option is a MultiAir2 Tigershark 2.4-liter inline-4 that creates 180 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. The transmission that you'll find paired with these engines is a nine-speed automatic transmission. What 4x4 systems come with the Cherokee?
In order to maintain the top-of-the-line off-roading capabilities, there are three 4x4 systems that are available with the Jeep Cherokee. The first system, Jeep Active Drive I, is available with the Latitude, Latitude Plus, Limited, and Overland trim levels. This system offers new technology that reduces the weight by almost 17 lbs. And can reduce low-speed system drag torque by almost 50%. These improvements allow for better fuel economy. This system also allows for a seamless operation into and out of four-wheel drive, with no driver intervention needed. Another 4x4 system, which is offered on the same trim levels, is Jeep Active Drive II. This system offers a two-speed PTU, with low range and torque management. The 4-low mode is best for low-speed power and towing by locking the front and rear driveshafts. To give you better climbing ability, low range gives you a 2.92:1 gear reduction. You'll also find a Neutral state that is perfect for flat-towing. The third system is similar to Jeep Active Drive II and additionally includes a locking rear differential. The locking rear differential is especially impressive when it comes to severe off-road conditions as it offers a superior low-speed traction. This 4x4 system comes with the Trailhawk trim.
