2019 RAM 1500 vs 2019 Chevy Silverado near Athens, GAIf you've been hankering for a full-sized pickup that's got more than enough power to make sure any job you could have for it gets done, than we've got two such vehicles that we think you should consider before anything else; the 2019 RAM 1500 and Chevy Silverado. These two excellent pickup trucks are ready-made to be able to meet your needs regardless of what those needs might be. There are some differences between them though, as each vehicle brings a few different things to the table. If you need more to narrow down which between the 1500 and the Silverado would be best for you, continue with our comparison below where we layout what each has to offer. |
|
2019 RAM 1500 Power & HandlingWithin the 2019 RAM 1500 line there are two impressive powertrains to choose between, both able to deliver the power to meet your needs when it comes to the realms of capability and power. The standard engine for the 1500 is a 3.6-liter V6 engine that puts out a more than marginally impressive 305 horsepower and 296 pound-feet of torque. Should that not be quite right for what you need your 1500 to do there is also an available upgrade that will equip it with a 5.7-liter V8 engine, which puts out an even more impressive 395 horsepower and 410 pound feet of torque. The 5.7-liter isn't available on the HFE trim though. Both of these powertrain options is initially paired with a 3.21 axle ratio, 8-speed automatic transmission, and rear wheel drive. Once again with the exception of the HFE trim, but four-wheel-drive is an available option. With all that these powertrains are capable of, you're bound to only get the best out of the 1500 no matter what engine you decide is the best fit for under the hood. |
2019 Chevy Silverado Power & HandlingWIth up to four engines that could fill the space under its hood, the 2019 Chevy Silverado does seem to have more options available to it. However, the Silverado's powertrains are actually somewhat limited by the fact that each of its engines is actually locked to specific trim levels instead of being freely interchangeable. While these engines aren't any less capable for this fact, by being locked at certain trim levels a potential driver might find themselves forced to choose between some set of features that will make your time behind the wheel more enjoyable and an engine that could have the power or driving feel that you're looking for. A 4.3-liter V6 paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission acts as the Silverado's basic engine, which is paired to the WT trim. This engine manages to put out 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque. A 2.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine makes its debut at the LT trim level, coming paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission and putting out 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque. This just squeaks by the capabilities of the 1500's standard engine option. A 5.3-liter V8 engine equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission will come at the LTZ and LT Trail Boss trim levels, which puts out 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. Finally, there's a 6.2-liter V8 with a 10-speed automatic transmission that comes with the High Country trim, which brings it up to 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. By the numbers, this means the High Country's engine is the only engine available to the Silverado that's able to outdo the 1500's 5.7-liter engine option. |
2019 RAM 1500 Features & DesignWith not only two or three but seven fully feature-laden trim levels available to choose between, the 2019 RAM 1500 has a substantial number of options to ensure that you get all the things you need in a vehicle for it to be the perfect ride for you. The 1500's workhorse and most basic trim is anything but, a fact that will be driven home when you see all that the Tradesman comes with. The Tradesman's included features consist of a 6-speaker audio system, vinyl flooring and upholstery, push-button start, class III hitch receiver, rearview camera, five-inch touchscreen, automatic headlights, USB inputs, 18-inch steel wheels, an auxiliary audio jack, locking tailgate, and a 40/20/40-folding rear split seat. The HFE trim is similarly equipped to the Tradesman trim but comes with rear-wheel drive and improved fuel efficiency. At the Big Horn trim level the 1500 gains such features as 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, tinted windows, floor carpeting, and a 60/40-rear split folding bench. There several optional features available for the Big Horn trim that includes an 8.4-inch touchscreen, 20-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, air-suspension, power-adjustable pedals, LED tail- and headlights, and side steps. Reaching the Rebel trim level will gain the 1500 several off-road oriented features such as a class IV hitch receiver, front tow hooks, a 115-volt power outlet, fortified suspension and shocks, power-adjustable driver's seat, LED headlights, skid plates, fog lights, an electronic-locking rear axle, an enlarged driver information display, hill descent control, and a 3.92 axle ratio. A few more luxurious amenities will start to pop up as part of the Laramie trim's set of added features. Such features include keyless entry, rear parking sensors, heated steering wheel, leather upholstery, power-adjustable pedals, 40/20/20-split front bench, driver-seat memory, and front seats that are both ventilated and heated. The Longhorn trim will see the RAM 1500 gain even more luxury features like a navigation system, 20-inch wheels, heated and ventilated rear seats, spray-in bedliner, automatic high beams, chrome side steps, and a power tailgate release. Ending the line is the Limited trim with its chrome exterior adornments, premium-leather bucket seats, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, retractable power-side steps, and adjustable air suspension. |
2019 Chevy Silverado Features & DesignThe 2019 Chevy Silverado has eight available trims to choose from, which on paper makes it appear to gain a leg up when it comes to options compared to the RAM 1500. But it might be a good idea to take a look at what each trim level actually has to offer before deciding that a bigger quantity of choices automatically means there's actually more to it. The Silverado's most basic trim is the WT, which will see itself outfitted with air conditioning, smartphone integration, 7-inch touchscreen, 17-inch wheels, and a 6-speaker audio system. The next trim, the Custom, will gain the Silverado 20-inch wheels, front tow hooks, power heated mirrors, tinted glass, and cruise control. The Custom Trail Boss trim adds 18-inch wheels, a Z71 off-road suspension package, and 4-wheel drive. Moving on to the LT trim will gain LED headlights, audio controls inlaid in the steering wheel, an upgraded information display, Wi-Fi, and an 8-inch touchscreen. The RST trim gets in-bed lighting, rear USB ports, rear-window defrost, and a power-release locking tailgate. The LT Trail Boss comes equipped similarly to the Custom Trail Boss, but then adds trailering upgrades, dual exhaust, and a specialized exterior trim. The LTZ trim finds the Silverado gaining HD radio, auto-dimming and power-folding mirrors, power-adjustable and heated front seats, trailer brake control, leather upholstery, a 120-volt power outlet, onboard navigation system, and dual-zone climate control. Bringing up the end of the line is the High Country trim, which gains a spray-in bedliner, power-sliding rear windows, a 7-speaker audio system, wireless phone charging, rear cross-traffic alert, 20-inch chrome wheels, blind-spot monitoring, and ventilated second-row seats. |
ConclusionsWhile both the 1500 and Silverado offer a lot for prospective buyers to consider when making up their mind, it's our opinion that the 2019 RAM 1500 is the better pick between the two. While the Silverado may seem to offer more, what with its higher number of listed engines and trim being available compared to the 1500's options, the way engines are linked to trim levels means they aren't actually choices themselves but a very specific kind of feature that hopefully just lines up enough with the other more traditional features for you. Added to that is the fact that each of the Silverado's trims bring less to their model than what the 1500 gains at each level. So while there's a good set of equipment and features to be found with the 2019 Chevy Silverado, the 2019 RAM 1500 will give you more control over what kind of vehicle you're going home with. |
