2019 Jeep Renegade Power & Handling

Jeep offers a choice between two impressive Inline-4 powertrains to pack into the 2019 Renegade. Within the first two trim levels, the Sport and Latitude, you will find a 2.4-liter Tigershark Inline-4 engine that pushes out 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain can be configured with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive and comes standard with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Coming standard with the Trailhawk and Limited trims as well as Optional for the Sport and Lattitude, you will find a 1.3-liter MultiAir Turbo Inline-4 Engine that utilizes direct injection and engine stop-start technology. This engine brings out an improved 200 lb-ft of torque and paired with Jeep's incredible drive-train set can boast a 21:1 crawl ratio to be one of the best in off-road capability.

2019 Mazda CX-3 Power & Handling

The 2019 CX-3 only comes equipped with a single powertrain option which does a decent job overall. Within the CX-3 lies a 2.0-liter Inline-4 engine that can produce up to 148 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque. This is enough to carry the CX-3 on the road but doesn’t quite measure up against Jeep’s advanced 1.3-liter MultiAir Turbo I4 engine in torque and power nor even against the base Tigershark engine featured in starting trims of the Renegade. The CX-3’s engine also only comes with a six-speed automatic transmission which doesn’t match the shifting prowess of the nine-speed transmission we find in the Renegade.

2019 Jeep Renegade Features & Design

Jeep brings in four individual trim levels that each offer a different experience with the 2019 Renegade. At the base Sport trim, you will find a list of solid standard features including you will get 16-inch wheels, keyless ignition, and entry, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, a 5-inch touchscreen paired with Bluetooth access, a USB port, six-speaker sound system, and extra storage options with cargo floor panel, fold-flat front passenger seat, 60/40-split-folding back seats. Moving up in trim level, the Latitude and Limited trim sets bring even more luxury and convenience with features such as leather-wrapped steering wheel, an extra USB port, automatic two-zone temperature control, a heated steering wheel, power-adjustable heated front seats, rain-sensing windshield wipers, larger 18-inch wheels, remote engine start, and more. If you are looking to take your Renegade off-road, the Trailhawk trim wields Jeep's legendary off-road features with specialized 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, tuned and raised suspension, underbody skid plates for extra protection, hill descent control, and Jeep’s 4x4 Selec-Terrain technology which has 5 different modes to taper performance based on the weather or terrain you find yourself exploring.

2019 Mazda CX-3 Features & Design

Mazda brings in a few trim levels to offer a progression of features but doesn’t quite match the purposeful versatility we see immediately looking at the Jeep Renegade. Starting at the base Sport trim level the CX-3 offers a touchscreen display with Bluetooth and USB port, folding rear seats, 16-inch wheels, and some other features that match most of the Renegade’s standard kit. As we progress down the trim line the CX-3 builds on some decent features including keyless entry/ignition, heated front seats, leather interior touches that each matches what the Renegade offers; however, we don’t quite see the versatility or off-road capability that unsurprisingly sets Jeep apart.

Conclusions

Looking at each of these models, it is no surprise that the 2019 Renegade and 2019 CX-3 are two top contenders in their market class. The CX-3 offers a pretty decent standard powertrain, but doesn’t give room for progression and actually falls below the powertrain Jeep offers with its 2019 Renegade. The Renegade outperforms in horsepower and torque as well as other important aspects within its weight class. If you are looking for a decently stocked trim set, the CX-3 could be what you are looking for, but we like the overall progression of the trim options and feature list that Jeep brings to the table.
