Whitewater Creek Trail, Atlanta
Whitewater Creek Trail is in the East Palisades unit of the Chattahoochee River National Recreational Area. It offers a network of trails along the river bank and through a rolling hardwood forest on bluffs towering above the river. You can spend an hour or half-day hiking or running more than 4 miles of trails. Dogs are more than welcome; there is even a dog beach where you can let your pups run off-leash.
B.J. Reece Orchards, Ellijay
B.J. Reece Orchards in Ellijay is about an hour and a half outside Atlanta. Take a trip to this family-owned apple orchard and handpick tasty peaches and apples while in season, milk a cow, and then grab a tasty treat at the bakery. Visit the petting farm, participate in pig races, and much more.
Three Sisters Vineyards & Winery, Dahlonega
The Three Sisters Vineyards & Winery in Dahlonega offers wine tastings. In addition, it holds a Georgia Wine Country Festival every weekend in June, where visitors can sample wines and purchase various Georgia beers and wines. The staff is amiable and knowledgeable and will answer any wine questions. The winery is an hour's drive from Atlanta.
Broad River Outpost, Danielsville
The Broad River Outpost in Danielsville welcomes friendly leashed dogs and is open from March to October. It is an hour and a half ride up 85. You will have a thrilling good time on a kayak or canoe rental, then spend the night at the campground. The BRO uses the best-designed kayaks and canoes suited for beginner LOWER whitewater and easy to use for beginners on the scenic UPPER section. The UPPER is 6 miles of moving water sprinkled with small shoals through a hardwood valley.
Centennial Olympic Park, Atlanta
The Centennial Olympic Park downtown Atlanta will please pet parents and their dogs. This 22-acre green space serves as Georgia's 1996 Summer Olympic Games legacy. The park features a Fountain of Rings, summer popular music concerts, and an annual concert and fireworks show on Independence Day. Doggie bags are available inside the park, and pets must always be on a leash.
