The New 807 Horsepower Hellcrate Redeye Crate Engine

Through its many changes of ownership, until we get to today’s Stellantis, Chrysler Corporation has been continuously involved in the design and creation of high-performance vehicles. It goes back to the 1950s when the original Generation I Hemi engines – the first engines to develop one horsepower per cubic inch – were released. And, the company hasn’t paused since.

Recently, Mopar unleashed the most powerful production muscle-car engine ever available to builders and enthusiasts yet with the launch of its newest crate engine – the 807-horsepower Hellcrate Redeye 6.2-litre Supercharged HEMI V-8 engine.

“With the addition of this new supercharged HEMI, Mopar now offers five HEMI crate engines with a range of 375 to 1,000 horsepower,” said Mark Bosanac, Head of Mopar Service, Parts and Customer Care for FCA – North America. “All Mopar crate engines are quality-tested and factory-backed to deliver proven performance to our enthusiasts.”

What was the first Hellcrate engine?

In 2017, Mopar released the first Hellcrate engine. It was a 6.2-liter supercharged Crate HEMI Engine that stunned the industry with its 707 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. Not only was it available in then current Dodge Challengers, but it was also offered as a kit for the enthusiast market, a kit with full documentation, wiring harness, and transmission adapters!

How does the new Hellcrate Redeye engine differ?

The new Hellcrate engine is even more potent with 807 horsepower and 717 lb.-ft. of torque (on 91-octane pump gas). This is the same engine installed in the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon – the world’s quickest and most powerful muscle car ever built. Today this engine also powers the new Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye, Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, and the new Challenger SRT Super Stock.

What differences are there between the original and the Redeye?

The new Hellcrate Redeye power plant features the following upgrades versus the first generation Hellcrate engine:

·         Increased boost pressure: 14.5 psi versus 11.6 psi
·         Larger supercharger:  2.7 litres versus 2.4 litres
·         Higher rpm limit: 6,500 rpm versus 6,200 rpm
·         Piston-cooling jet flow: increased 100%
·         Camshaft: 5150 alloy gun-drilled optimized for higher rpm
·         Pistons: Forged high-strength alloy with powder-forged connecting rods
·         Crankshaft: Forged steel alloy with longer stroke and revised balancing

What does the Hellcrate Redeye Kit include?

The Hellcrate Redeye Kit includes a supercharger with throttle body, coil packs, fuel injectors, water pump, front-sump oil pan, and flexplate. Builders who prefer a manual transmission can obtain a special high-rpm flywheel and clutch and pressure plate assembly. Also available is a Front End Accessory Drive Kit which includes an alternator, power-steering pump, belts, pulleys, and mounting hardware.

The Redeye HEMI kit ships in distinctive packaging that features the Hellcat Redeye logo and includes in-depth installation sheets with installation requirements and helpful tips.
