How Does Jeep's 4xe Technology Work?
Jeep's plug-in hybrid technology, which they call 4xe, pronounced "four by E," is a play on words. Instead of 4x4, meaning four-wheel drive, this is 4xE, a four-wheel electric drive. In this state-of-the-art system, Jeep pairs a traditional gas engine with incredible electric motor performance. Jeep Brand electrification also offers near-silent, pure EV-driven performance when in Electric mode. Plus, you can adjust the electric output to suit different driving conditions, recharge, and do it all over again.
Does The Jeep 4xe Have A Big Battery?
4xe technology offers the performance you need to power your adventures to incredible heights. The hybrid gas and electric powertrain work in tandem to deliver legendary and uncompromised capability. However, the heart of your 4xe is the powerful 17.3 kWh battery. It only takes two hours to fully replenish its energy with an available Level II battery charger so you can get back to your all-electric adventure. What is E-Selec Driving?
Jeep 4xe powertrains allow drivers to optimize every ride with E-Selec driving modes that put you in control, Electric Mode, eSave Mode, and Hybrid Mode. The default mode is Hybrid which combines torque from both the PHEV powertrain with the 2.0L DOHC DI Turbo I4 engine and the electric motor. This combination provides maximum horsepower, instant torque, and thrilling acceleration. In this mode, electric power is consumed first. Electric Mode allows for nearly zero tailpipe emissions up to highway speeds. The Wrangler 4xe can run in this mode for a distance of up to 21 total miles on a full charge, and the Grand Cherokee for 25 miles. eSave Mode prioritizes the 2.0L engine, saving battery charge for later use. When power demand is low, the engine shuts off. It can also be reconfigured to increase the battery charge as well.

How Do I Charge My Jeep On The Trail?

Plus, Jeep 4xe Charging Network makes it easy to plan your route and recharge along the way. Jeep is building charging stations across America for 4xe owners to continue their electrified adventures in some of the most remote destinations, including Jeep Badge of Honor off-road trailheads. Jeep 4xe Charging Stations will be directly connected to the power grid or use solar power to generate electricity. The chargers will deliver Level 2 charging allowing you to recharge in as little as two hours.
