Day Trip to Atlanta Festivals

Sure school starts in August for most of the Atlanta area but that doesn’t mean the weekend fun stops happening. August is a big month for festivals and while there are many adult only festivals, this list of family friendly events will sure to delight children of all ages and their adults too.

Dinosaur Day - August 18

Kids love everything about Fernbank Museum of Natural History. Let Dinosaur Day be one of the events the entire family enjoys this summer. Games, crafts and activities all about dinosaurs will be available. Don’t forget to snap a picture or two at the fountain with dinosaurs or the largest than life dinosaur replica on the lower level of the museum.

Train Show August 25

Watch your kids eyes light up like never before when they take in all the sights and sounds of the miniature trains at the Atlanta Model & Railroadiana Show in Duluth. And bring some funds so your little one can take home their very own model train from one of the hundreds of vendors that will be there.

Ice Cream Festival - August 26

Make room for over tasting 100 flavors of homemade ice cream at the Ice Cream festival in Roswell Square. There will also be an ice cream eating contest and a kids corner at Miss Mary’s Ice Cream Crankin. Everyone loves a good ice cream treat.

Decatur Book Festival - August 31 - Sept 2

Books galore, story time for kids, children’s parades, love music and more the annual Decatur book festival is fun for everyone. Buy books, get faces painted and more. You can also find spots to picnic around Decatur Square when you need to take a little break with the little ones.
