The 2022 Jeep Compass comes off the line with a 2.4-Liter Inline-4 cylinder engine supplying drivers with 177 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a smooth-shifting 6-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels. While front-wheel drive is standard, the Jeep Compass is available with Jeep’s Active Drive 4x4 system. Active Drive operates in two-wheel drive on smooth, dry road surfaces and seamlessly shifts itself into four-wheel drive when the road surfaces require more traction. This happens automatically without the driver pulling a lever or pushing a button. The mighty Compass Trailhawk earned Jeep’s Trail Rated badge with Active Drive Low 4x4 with a two-speed transfer case with a low range gear ratio. This transfer case offers optimal 4x4 control at low speeds like rock crawling or driving on slippery surfaces. The front-wheel-drive Compass variants employ a 6-speed automatic transmission. However, the 4x4 variants use a 9-speed automatic transmission.

The 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross offers one engine across the entire lineup. The new model employs a 2.0L I4 engine offering just 169 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque. The engine comes paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) powering the front wheels. The Toyota Corolla Cross is also available with all-wheel drive for better all-weather traction. However, the Corolla Cross doesn’t offer the same off-road capability that is available with its Jeep counterpart.

As was previously mentioned, the 2022 Jeep Compass was remodeled for the 2022 model year, offering a more attractive appearance, better features, and enhanced driveability. Higher trim levels tack on a dual-pane sunroof, 17-, 18-, or 19-inch alloy wheels, a heated steering wheel, heated front and second-row seats, a wireless charging pad, a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 7 or 10.25-inch digital driver information display, and more.

The Toyota Corolla Cross pulls design features from both the Corolla and the RAV4. The front end’s modern appearance features narrow headlight housings with standard LED headlights on either side of the black trapezoidal grille. In addition, 17-inch steel wheels with plastic covers are standard for the Corolla Cross, while 17 or 18-inch alloy wheels are optional.
