2021 Jeep Cherokee vs Chevy Equinox

There are a lot of different choices out there on the market today that make it difficult to figure out which one you want to drive home in. You know you want an SUV, but which one? In order to help you with this process, we’re narrowing down the options to two of the top competitors on the market. We’re looking at the 2021 Jeep Cherokee and the 2021 Chevy Equinox. The Jeep Cherokee receives a few changes in the 2021 model year, including an 80th Anniversary Edition, a new trim called Latitude Lux, and more standard driver aids. The Equinox comes into 2021 mostly unchanged, with the exception of a dropped engine option, less cargo room than most of the competition, and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Continue reading down below where we discuss more about these two SUVs to help you make your final decision.

2021 Jeep Cherokee Power & Handling

We know that power is important to people, especially when it just comes to making sure that your vehicle can handle the bad weather, and the trails. We’re pleased to tell you that the Cherokee can do it all with three available engines to choose from. All engines are available with FWD and AWD. The base engine is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder, which produces 171 pound-feet of torque and 180 horsepower. You’ll also be able to choose from a 3.2-liter V6, which creates 239 pound-feet of torque and 271 horsepower. The final available engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, which creates 295 pound-feet of torque and 270 horsepower. Each of these engines comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

2021 Chevy Equinox Power & Handling

After the Equinox dropped one of the engines it was offered with previously, there is now only one standard engine that comes with this machine. This engine comes standard with a six-speed automatic transmission and either front- or all-wheel drive. The engine itself is a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder, which can output up to 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. We’re fairly disappointed with this showing from Chevy, and we’d recommend steering away from this SUV.

2021 Jeep Cherokee Features & Design

Capability is not the only reason why you should be considering the 2021 Cherokee. This is a vehicle that gives you all of the comfort and convenience you need to enjoy every single drive! Some of the standard features here include rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, heated side mirrors, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, cruise control, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Other trims in the lineup get you a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, all-terrain tires, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, a self-dimming rearview mirror, Selec-Terrain, and an off-road suspension.

2021 Chevy Equinox Features & Design

In order to try and make up for the lack of real power and off-roading abilities, we’re going to be looking at the Equinox’s trim lineup. The base trim, L, comes in with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, keyless open, push-button start, 17-inch wheels, and a seven-inch touchscreen. Some of the available features include floor mats, blind-spot monitoring, dual-zone climate control, an 8-way power driver’s seat, leather interior, a hands-free power liftgate, and an eight-inch touchscreen.

Conclusion:

You’ve now been introduced to both of these SUVs, and one of them has impressed while the other has fallen flat. The 2021 Jeep Cherokee is simply the better vehicle, giving you off-roading capabilities, a comfortable interior, and a unique style that you will never grow bored of.
