The 2018 Jeep Cherokee is available with two different engines. The standard engine is the 2.4-liter Tigershark 4-cylinder which produces 184 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. The gas mileage on the Tigershark varies depending on whether the model is FWD or 4WD, and which Active Drive mode is on. FWD city is 21 mpg, FWD highway 30 mpg. The 4WD Active Drive I city is 21 mpg, highway 28 mpg. The 4WD Active Drive II city brings it to 21 mpg, while the highway gives 27 mpg. Lastly, the 4WD Trailhawk city is 19 mpg, with the highway being 25 mpg. The other engine option, which is standard on the Overland 4x4, and is optional on all of the other trim models is the 3.2-liter V6, which creates 271 horsepower and 239 pound-feet of torque. This engine also has different fuel economies that are dependent on FWD, 4WD, and Active Drive. FWD in the city is 21 mpg, and on the highway becomes 29 mpg. In the 4WD Active Drive I city the miles per gallon is 20, and on the highway it is 27 mpg. 4WD active Drive II brings the city mpg to 18, and the highway miles per gallon to 26. The last driving option, 4WD Trailhawk, puts out 18 mpg in the city, and 24 mpg on the highway. There is a standard nine-speed automatic transmission that comes with both engines, with the only difference being whether you choose to get either FWD, or 4WD. The 4WD offers three different options to choose from, Jeep Active Drive I being the base system, giving a single-speed transfer case. Active Drive II is the second, which is a 2-speed transfer case. The last one can only be used with the Trailhawk, and adds the Selec-Terrain system. The towing capability of the 4-cylinder engine is up to 2,000 pounds, while the V6 engine sits at up to 4,500 pounds.

The second to last trim level, known as the Limited has some similarities to the Trailhawk but adds leather upholstery, a power liftgate, heated seats for the front two passengers, heated steering wheel, an additional remote ignition, de-icer for the wiper, parking sensors, and blind-spot monitoring. Last but not least is the Overland, with windshield and front windows that are sound-deadening, exterior trim that has a unique body-color,a nine-speaker audio system, an instrument panel surrounded in leather, memory functions for the driver's seat, ventilated front seats, and of course, a radio and navigation system.
