2018 Chrysler Pacifica vs 2018 Toyota Sienna near Athens, GA

The minivan segment is a competitive one, filled with options from the 2018 Chrysler Pacifica to the 2018 Toyota Sienna. The Pacifica, in the 2018 model year, is continuing to step up its game by making Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard across every trim level, along with rear parking sensors, and even blind-spot monitoring! Chrysler's dedication to safety shows. The 2018 Sienna doesn't receive as many changes as the Pacifica, only adding updated Entune infotainment system, a front-end that was slightly revised, and a Safety Sense package on all of the trim levels. The Chrysler Pacifica is already off to a stand-out performance, and with a brand new entry-level trim, the options continue to expand for this minivan.

2018 Chrysler Pacifica Power & Handling

The Chrysler Pacifica can be found with a gasoline engine, as well as a Hybrid version. The standard engine is a 3.6-liter V6, which generates 262 lb-ft of torque and 287 horsepower. The Hybrid engine option is the same engine that is paired with dual-electric motors and a 16kWh battery. A nine-speed automatic transmission works in tandem with both of these engines. The fuel efficiency of the Pacifica is the real story here, besides the impressive power. The V6 engine can get up to 18 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. The Hybrid engine ups the fuel efficiency, and gives you the ability to travel 33 miles with just the battery. Otherwise, the combined fuel economy is 32 mpg.

2018 Toyota Sienna Power & Handling

The Toyota Sienna comes with one standard engine. This engine is a 3.5-liter V6, which can generate up to 296 horsepower and 263 pound-feet of torque. You'll find this engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The standard drivetrain is front-wheel drive, however, you can choose all-wheel drive. With only one engine available, the Pacifica pulls ahead, especially considering the fact that the Pacifica has a Hybrid engine option. The Sienna can get up to 27 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive, and up to 24 mpg highway with all-wheel drive.

2018 Chrysler Pacifica Features & Design

There are six trim levels that you'll find with the Chrysler Pacifica! The base model, L, comes with many standard features, including a height-adjustable driver seat, blind-spot monitoring, Bluetooth, an auxiliary jack, a 60/40-split folding third-row seat, keyless entry and ignition, rear parking sensors, a 7-inch touchscreen, and a six-speaker audio system. A midrange option is the Touring Plus, offering full keyless entry, a charge-only USB port, power-sliding rear doors, LED taillights, automatic climate control, automatic headlights, a power liftgate, remote engine start, and satellite radio. The highest option is the Limited which comes with a hands-free liftgate, auto-dimming exterior and rearview mirrors, ventilated front seats, hands-free sliding doors, a power-folding third-row, driver memory settings, LED foglights, power-folding mirrors, and premium leather upholstery. These are just a few of the trim levels, and just a few of the many features that you'll find in a Chrysler Pacifica.

2018 Toyota Sienna Features & Design

There are five trim levels offered with the Sienna, that is one less trim than the Pacifica boasts. The base trim L offers a conversation mirror, a wiper de-icer, a 7-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera, a six-speaker sound system and keyless entry. A midrange option, the SE, includes a unique front fascia, heated front seats, a power liftgate, and 19-inch alloy wheels. One of the higher options, the Limited, includes noise-reducing side glass, premium leather upholstery in the first and second rows, a 10-speaker JBL surround-sound audio system, and front and rear parking sensors. For more features you'll have to pay up through two package options, or by buying the Limited Premium model which is the highest model offered.

Conclusions

The minivan segment is crowded with many exception options, and the Pacifica and Sienna stand out from the rest. However, the Chrysler Pacifica offers something that the Sienna just simply cannot compete with. The Hybrid option makes the Pacifica the minivan to beat, and while other minivans may try and stuff in more features to keep up, the fuel efficiency is enough to sway anyone that this is the minivan to beat.
