2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited at Akins Dodge Chrysler Jeep

Jeep really excels at providing great feature sets this year, and especially emphasizes the higher trims of the Unlimited version of its Wrangler. You may have always wanted a mid-size, four-door, off-roading capable SUV that seats five-- and the 2017 Jeep Wrangler is here to fill that position. Wrangler Unlimited vehicles obtain new-for-2017 fog lamps and LED headlights as standard on the Sahara and Rubicon models (optional on the Sport). Also the 'Cold Weather Group' becomes available on Rubicon models and has the following features: the 'Power Convenience Group', 17-inch BF Goodrich KO2 tires, an engine block heater, all-weather slush mats, heated seats, and a remote start. Anyone who has dealt with cold weather, even if they live somewhere that's usually warm (travelers, snow-birds, etc) would appreciate the value of those features.

Under the Wrangler Unlimited's Hood

The trail-conquering 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is the product of more than seven decades of 4x4 engineering application and ingenuity. There's a front and a rear five-link suspension system, electronic lockers, live axles, and an available six-speed manual transmission (or a five-speed automatic). Its ready to go 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine delivers 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The Jeep Wrangler is available with several available axle gear ratios-- 3.21, 3.73 or 4.10 ratios (model-dependent). This is the vehicle to use if you absolutely need to get over it or through it with its best-in-class approach angle of 42.2 degrees, breakover angle of 25.8 degrees and departure angle of 32.3 degrees! The Command-Trac NV241, part-time, two-speed transfer case, features a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio. In addition, an optional Trac-Lok limited-slip rear differential provides extra torque and grip in low-traction environments such as sand, mud or snow. The Sport and Sahara models include both a Dana 30 front axle and a Dana 44 rear axle, while the Rubicon model has heavy-duty Dana 44 front and rear axles. There are black-sidewalled, on/off-road tires on the 2017 Rubicon, and it also houses electric front and rear locking differentials, the Rock-Trac NV241 two-speed transfer case (with its 4.0:1 low-range gear ratio), and a disconnecting front sway bar. There is a strong towing maximum of 3,500 pounds for the Unlimited.

Design of Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

For 2017, the Jeep Wrangler lineup that has an Unlimited version is made of four rambunctious models: the Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and the Rubicon. The Jeep Wrangler's traditional features include: round headlamps, removable doors, exposed hinges, a seven-slot grille, trapezoidal wheel flares, a fold-down windshield and innovative removable tops and half-doors. Top that off with a standard eight-speaker audio system or an optional 'Premium Alpine Audio Package' that plays through nine Alpine speakers, a subwoofer and a 552-watt amplifier. The Unlimited's backseat has room for three people (or one very large dog!) and also an easy way for them to get in and out: an extra set of doors! This keeps the driver from groaning their way out of their seats every time the car stops and passengers want to get out, plus it makes loading stuff even easier. Speaking of that, the 2017 Unlimited gives you 31.5 cubic feet of space behind the backseat and, with the rear seats folded down, a full 70.6 cubic feet of cargo space. The 8-speakered Sport trim level includes a larger gas tank, air-conditioning, a 60/40-split folding seat, 16-inch steel wheels, on/off-road tires, a full-size spare tire, cloth upholstery, a tilt-only steering wheel, a folding, tumble-forward backseat, skid plates, tow hooks, fog-lights, removable doors, a fold-down windshield, full metal doors with crank windows, cruise control, a height-adjustable driver seat, and an auxiliary audio jack. The Sport S follows that pretty closely behind, trading however the standard fog-lights for a deep-tinted sunscreen rear and quarter window set, and slightly different (P255/70R18 Bridgestone Dueler A/T, OWL, On-/Off-Road) tires. The Sahara adds the 'Power Convenience Group' items, cylindrical side steps and handles for passengers in the back, 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, LED fog-lights, additional painted exterior body panels and trim, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, satellite radio, and some other great touches. On to the Rubicon Wrangler, which inherits the Sport's features, adds 17-inch alloy wheels, special tires, the 'Power Convenience Group', low range gear engineering (better described in the paragraph above), rock rails, automatic LED headlamps and the inner hood insulation. In the cabin area, buyers will find as standard both a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a 115-volt outlet, air-conditioning and satellite radio.

What type of axles does the Rubicon Unlimited have?

The Rubicon Unlimited model has as standard heavy-duty Dana 44 front and rear axles.
