2017 Jeep Cherokee at Akins Dodge Chrysler Jeep

2017 is where the five-passenger crossover Jeep Cherokee SUV rolls in and then drives up and over its competitors with its list of features and enhancements. Standard high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps (except the Sport model) are here for 2017, and there are two new Overland Packages that are going to be available later in the year. There is a new standard Alpine audio system, wood-trim Zebrano steering wheel, and floor mats-- only on the Overland model (in its 1st full year). For 2017, the cherished Trailhawk model has, as standard, heated Nappa-leather front seats combined seamlessly with a premium heated steering wheel, a power liftgate, Keyless Enter 'n Go, a power eight-way driver seat, a remote start system, a universal garage door opener, and a lot more. This is a rooted and well-built vehicle, ready for the challenges you throw at it, plus it gets you and your loved ones where you're going in style.

Under the Cherokee's Hood

Shoppers of the brand can opt for either front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive (both engines), except for Trailhawk models which is a 4WD-only, dirt and stone crunching behemoth. Throwing in the available towing package enables V6 models to reach a considerable 4,500-pound towing capacity. A proficient nine-speed automatic transmission is standard. The 2017 Jeep Cherokee has as standard a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 184 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. Optional on almost all models is a 3.2-liter V6 that realizes 271-horsepower and spins 239 lb-ft of torque. There are three 4WD systems to choose from: the competent Active Drive I system, the Jeep Active Drive Lock, or the enthusiast-minded Active Drive II system for truly testing out the Cherokee in the woods. A Cherokee equipped with the 2.4-liter engine and front-wheel drive is EPA-rated at 25 mpg combined (21 city/30 highway). The V6 and front-wheel drive comes in at 24 mpg combined (21 city/29 highway).

Design of Jeep Cherokee

For those of you that simply must stand out from the crowd, there are three Special Edition models of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee: the 75th Anniversary Edition (being made through Dec. 2016), the Altitude, and the High Altitude model. The 2017 Jeep Cherokee shows up strong in five core trim levels: the Sport, Latitude, Limited, Overland, and the Trailhawk. All models can be either 4x2 and 4x4, except for the 4x4-only Trailhawk. Speaking of the Trailhawk, it has a locking rear differential, skid plates, tow hooks, a larger driver information display with color graphics, hill ascent and descent control, wider 17-inch wheels and all-terrain tires, increased ground clearance, satellite radio and Jeep's 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen interface. The Sport includes 17-inch steel wheels, remote keyless entry, sliding and reclining rear seats with 60/40-split folding seatbacks, Bluetooth, an auxiliary audio input, an SD card reader and much more. The Latitude also has alloy wheels, and gains roof rails, fog-lights, automatic xenon headlights, a rearview camera, LED interior lighting, and a 115-volt outlet. The Limited model has as standard 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and ignition, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The Overland includes a nine-speaker audio system with a subwoofer, a power-adjustable passenger seat (with four-way power lumbar), an acoustic windshield and front windows, and a power liftgate.

Safety, an ever-present focus for Jeep, makes a strong showing in the Cherokee. All 2017 Jeep Cherokees have standard front- and rear-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags and front knee airbags, antilock disc brakes, and also stability and traction control. A rearview camera is available on the Sport trim level and standard on all other models, which can be super helpful not just for other cars and pedestrians, but also while towing. All Cherokees with the 8.4-inch touchscreen can access the Uconnect Access system with its remote door unlocking and stolen vehicle assistance, and also its emergency on-demand roadside assistance and automatic crash notification systems. The Latitude trim allows buyers to opt for the 'Safety/Convenience Group' package, which adds an added layer of security. The Trailhawk, Limited and Overland models can add the available 'Technology Group' package that has automatic high beams, a forward collision warning and mitigation system, a lane departure warning system, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors and an automated parking system. The IIHS stated that the 2017 Jeep Cherokee earned a score of 'Superior' for the its optional forward collision mitigation system. In government crash tests, the Cherokee landed an overall rating of four out of five possible stars, with four stars for total front-impact protection and five stars for total side-impact protection.
